New Creation and Life Now (Pt 4)
As I’ve been thinking and reading over the past few weeks about how our Christian hope for the New Creation should shape our life now, one of the resources I’ve found helpful has been Andrew Cameron’s recent book Joined-Up Life.
Andrew considers how our hope for the future should shape the ethical decisions we make everyday. He has great thoughts on how Christian ethics should spring from Jesus, thinks about how each of Jesus life, death and resurrection impact this, and also looks at some specific examples of what that will look like if we adopt this Jesus-centred view. His blog also has some great thoughts, you can find it here.
Got any resources (books/blogs/other stuff…) you find helpful in thinking about how we live now in light of what the future holds for us? Post a comment and let us know.
This post is part of a series aimed at helping our 6pm congregation to think about what it could mean to be living out the hope of God’s new creation in our local community. Read the previous posts.

New Creation and Life Now (Pt 3)
The third in our series of posts thinking about what it might mean for our 6pm Katalyst congregation to be living out the hope of God’s new creation in our local community (Get up to speed by reading the first and second posts if you haven’t already).
Isaiah 65 presents an amazing vision of God’s new creation and the challenge for us is how we bring a taste of this future to those we encounter who don’t yet know Jesus. We thought particularly about acts of evangelism, justice and beauty we could engage in, giving those we have contact with a taste of God’s future in the age to come.
These are some of the ideas we had about how Katalyst could engage with our community:
live music – at party in the park – at local venues, soup kitchen/other food program, CRE, Sunday school, youth ministry, community/sharing/preaching in the community, standing up for/making aware of global crises, Living in God in our everyday lives, telling people about Jesus as we care/serve/love, sharing hope with sick/old people, stand up for patients/children’s rights, equality in care/opportunity, SU Camps, help people become Christians, help people grow as Christians, help people be free from sin/condemnation, showing people the beauty of God’s joy and vision for us through poetry, art & design, teaching and learning forgiveness, friendship and relationship with others, boldness to share our passion, passion, insight
I’m sure this is just the beginning. What visions has God laid on your heart? How do you dream of making an impact for God’s kingdom? Let your imagination run wild. How could God use you/use us to tell the world about him through our actions and words?
Looking forward to hearing some more great thoughts and insights as we move forward in the discernment process.

Ladies Lunch – Caulfield Racecourse
A smaller cohort than usual met at the Glasshouse Restaurant at the Caulfield Racecourse for our monthly Ladies Lunch. It was great to see Audrey fighting fit, and we had our usual mix of Ormond and St Mark’s Chapel parishioners, and also my mum! We shared a lovely meal, and as always, lots of conversation!

On Eagles’ Wings
Not only is God unlike anyone else- mightier than anyone in this world- but he uses his great power to strengthen weaklings like you and me. Feeling weak, tired or spent? Don’t miss this Sunday night (April 29) at Katalyst as we soar through Isaiah 40.25-31. The Katalyst Panel will also be discussing text in questions from the floor. What’s bugging you about God or life? Put it to us and let’s so what we come up with!
“The sign that didn’t work”
Ok … so people didn’t ‘get’ my last sign on North Rd ! – I’m not feeling bad about it, just a little misunderstood that’s all … I think the ‘commodification’ of our relationships is a really important issue and its creeping up on us via our public discourse and the terminology we find on our public documents.
I think we should be offended when the local hospital will not acknowledge our RELATIONAL connection with our mother or father – demoting us to the homogenised ‘carer’ status.
I think we should get upset when there is no room on the government form we have to fill out for ‘husband’ or ‘wife’ but only for a partner.
I think we should get upset when our children are not allowed to call us ‘mum’ or ‘dad’ but instead have to own up to having ‘parent one or parent two’ … because in the end we are worth more than ‘what we can do for people’, we are not commodities, we are relational beings – that’s what gives us worth – especially in God’s eyes, for He made us.
- there I’ve said it !
